So, due to unforseen complications, I won't be in Chicago this weekend @ Lollapalooza. Suffice it to say, I'm rather bitter about it, and missing Radiohead hurts me in ways that it shouldn't, but does. I'll just have to remember their last performance @ Hutchinson Field in Chicago, and think of that fondly while pretending they aren't playing tonight. We'll see if that works (probably not), but there are plenty of distractions this weekend to take my mind off of Lolla.
First of all, my (or our, if you are a fan) beloved Twins are smack dab in a pennant race in August-who could've predicted that would be the case, especially with the disastrous off-season, where we lost 3/5 of our pitching staff, including perennial Ace/Cy Young Johan Santana, and perennial Gold Glover Torii Hunter. But here we are, a half game out of first, and hopefully ready to make another late season surge to win our division and go on to the playoffs. I couldn't be more proud of our young, hardworking team, defying the odds and the finances of baseball, and showing more fight and determination than all the other sports teams in this state combined. So, Win Twins! Keep shocking the world, and help me forget about missing Radiohead tonight by beating the Indians and taking over first place.
Secondly, there is an incredible show happening on Saturday night @ Grumpy's, as the venerable rock band The Melvins return to raise hell in Minneapolis, bringing opening/backing band Big Business with them to bring the ruckus. It's going to be loud, crowded (Grumpy's is sold out, with capacity being around 200 drunks), and a complete hotbox, with temps on Saturday expected to be around 93 degrees. So, I can't wait. It's going to be a welcome distraction from missing Lolla, and The Melvins are just going to have to be my show of the weekend instead of Radiohead.
And, as a fall back, the folks at AT&T's Blueroom are again webcasting Lollapalooza, with a stellar (but no Radiohead) lineup over the weekend. Go
Here for the action, if you are missing out (like me) and are tired of pretending Lolla isn't happening. Here are the set/webcast times and acts for you (all times Eastern)-
Friday:
| 08:15 PM | Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks |
Saturday:
| 01:15 PM | Margot & the Nuclear So So's |
| 08:30 PM | Explosions in the Sky |
| 09:30 PM | Broken Social Scene |

Also, Fuse TV will have coverage from Lolla all weekend, with special reports and footage from the festival running during the duration of the fest, and a lengthy recap of Lolla after the festival, during their Lollapalooza Rewind Week. For everyone there, stay cool (high temps predicted for Chicago this weekend), know I'm jealous, and enjoy yourself.
